Stuck at the confusing 680 !

by suryanshuhooda » Sat Feb 08, 2014 8:34 am
So heres my story,

I prepared for my gmat, busting my ass for 2 months and finally gave the exam, postponing the date for a month in 5th Feb. The test was going good but midway I started having trouble breathing because of my cold and I couldnt concentrate on the last of quants and verbal section much. To my sadness, the score came out at 680 (IR-5, Q-48, V-34)

I plan on applying for MS Finance at top universities and with this score, I am not close to the median scores of HEC Paris or Oxford but I can join ESSEC, Cranfield School of Management. Now, I am confused whether to retake the GMAT once again after a month or to quit it and go with these scores as I still in undergrad and I dont want to screw my finals because of GMAT.

If i do plan to give the GMAT, Can anyone provide me links of some approach and material that I can follow to cross 40 in Verbal in one month. Your help will be much appreciated. Thankyou !

Hi suryanshuhooda,

You've brought up a number of questions, so I'll offer suggestions for each:

1) A 680/Q48 is a really good combo. It might be below the average for some of the schools that you're planning to apply to, but it won't keep you out of any of those schools. Whatever admissions questions that you have are better answered by Admissions Experts, so you should post in THAT Forum on this site.

2) You're really close to scoring 700+, but how were you scoring on your practice CATs? Your 680 might be the best you've ever scored or it might be average for your ability. Your practice history can provide some insight into your progress and skill set.

3) Improving your score by 6 points in a month is doable, but that task will probably require you to purchase some new resources. What books/classes/etc. have you been using to study with so far?
