Hi,

As in subject ; I did my GMAT and got a 700 (90th percentile) overall with 97th percentile in Verbal but only 63rd Percentile in Quantitative. My work ex is fairly decent ,i believe, having had experience managing a team of 10 , running my own P&L at a multinational bank, running my own professional consultancy firm with a partner. I've also obtained my CAIA and recently cleared CFA level 1.

My university results are not that great having just missed a 2-1 (UK Bachelors degree) and ended up with a 2-2.

Given this brief picture could some one tell me whether it is best for me to re-take the GMATs to get the score (quant) up prior to applying to some of the decent B-schools or would I stand a chance as things are? Further is there any consideration given by the schools if an applicant has /continues to represent his country at sport especially in light of the time required to commit to this while studying/working?

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Manoj

Hi Manoj,

I would put the GMAT on the back burner for now and concentrate on pulling together sparkling essays. Your work experience looks strong, particularly the combination of having managed a P&L, having run a team, and having worked as an entrepreneur with a partner. If, however, you managed all this in only a year or two it would be less convincing. Ideally you would have 4-5 years or more. The professional certifications indicate that you can easily handle business math and should have no problem with the quantitative classroom work, so I would not worry about the GMAT score.

You can always make a strong story out of any activity that requires dedication and perseverance, particularly if you are good enough to compete on an international level. The more well-known and followed the sport, the more impressive, but anytime you show a commitment to excellence you have a good story. An experienced admissions consultant can help you put together essays that tie your achievements in business to those in sports, demonstrating your career potential.

Good luck!
