Low awa score

by rt.subramanian » Fri Jul 25, 2008 2:26 am
Dear Stacy,

I have an unique profile. I worked as a flight stewardess for three years and now am working as an aviation trainer.

i want to do an mba as i want to open my own training school.

Well i took the gmat and got a decent score 710(Q-48,V-38). I was kind of satisfied until i received my awa score . i scored a mere 4.0. i dont know why..... i have requested for a review but that shall take a while.. i want to apply to the top 5 schools.

How much of a problem is this score going to pose.
Please help!!!!!

Dear aarti,

I'm not sure how much, if any, the AWA will hurt you. Some schools scrutinize the AWA and use it in the evaluation and others don't pay much attention to it. The schools do receive your written response on the official score report, so they could read it if they are concerned. In my opinion, the AWA score is no reason to retake your GMAT as it does not affect your GMAT score and the schools have your essays as evidence of your writing ability. My advice: stop worrying about it and direct your energy to your essays.

Best of luck,
Lisa
