I'm not quite sure what you mean about cancelling a score. Once you take the GMAT and get a result, that number will always be a part of your application.

You do have the option of not getting a result when you take the GMAT. If, at the end of the test, you know you did poorly, you can decide to 'cancel' the test at that time and not see your result, than it will be as if you never took the test. You'll lose your GMAT fee but otherwise will wipe the experience from record.

Hope that helps,

Jay

I am not quite sure this is true, I was under the impression that schools are notified about your canceled scores. So if you took 4 gmat test for instance schools will get: 650,670,CANCELED, 710 for instance.

I am quite sure schools you entered to send the results to get notified even if you cancel (they get "canceled" notification not the actual result, duh).

Hi,

Thank you for your replies.Pearson now records that you sat for the exam but cancelled your score and perhaps send the cancelled report to the selected schools, one of my concern is that, do the schools treat this(cancelled score) as a bad one and minimize a candidate's possibility to get into the school.

Regards.

Hi Beat_Gmat,

Side note - but remember that most top MBA schools have an 'OPTIONAL' essay which allow you to address any 'weakness' in your applications (i.e. gaps in employment, low GPA scores, why you dont have an LOR from your current employer). This is great place to explain a low GMAT score.
