Hi everyone,
I just scored an extremely satisfying 710! That's 92nd percentile with Q47 (79th percentile) and V40 (89th percentile). My practice CAT scores in chronological order were:
GMATPrep 1: 610
Free PR: 610
Free MGMAT: 690
MGMAT 1: 600
MGMAT 2: 700
MGMAT 3: 700
GMATPrep 2: 690
While 710 does lie within the +-30 GMATPrep tolerance and +-50 MGMAT tolerance, you can see why there's never any reason to lose hope. On my last 2 practice CATs and today's test, I thought quant was destroying me, but all three times I ended up with a 690 or 700. They key is to forget about the last x questions and keep looking ahead. You should make a conscious effort not to think back on the answered questions. Also, you should know that I guessed about 5 quant questions after eliminating just 1 or 0 choices. Most of 'em were DS questions I trusted my intuition on.
Study materials used:
- PR
- OG11
- OG Verbal Review
- MGMAT SC, FDP, CR, RC. CR and RC weren't very useful IMO because the strategy they preach involve taking notes, which I can never do in Verbal (simply takes too long). I desperately wanted to get my hands on the Number Properties and Inequalities books but I could neither find them in the Calgary/Toronto area nor could I wait for them in the mail. Wish I'd known about MGMAT earlier.
- Bought Kaplan but didn't find anything new in it
One thing you'd love to know: the UI of the test is EXACTLY like the same as the GMATPrep software's! Literally. It's the same software. I know someone had already mentioned this, but I just wanted to emphasize the "EXACTLY".
The most important piece of study advice: breathe the OG and GMATPrep questions + MGMAT verbal questions. They're most representative of the real deal (unlike the MGMAT word problems, which are twisted and verbose).
And finally, I'd like to thank the beaththegmat.com community for sharing so many confidence-building stories and skill-honing strategies. This is my half-assed attempt at giving something back.
