BEST DS BOOK OUT THERE

by Mclaughlin » Tue Jun 10, 2008 10:14 am
Can anyone recommend a really good place to start with the DS section?

I am so completely lost and I've taken a bunch of practice tests, but just can't seem to get it. I have the K800 book, but I dont think I"m ready for that yet for DS. I just dont understand, nor can I even grasp what I'm supposed to be doing in this section.

I haven't found a book specifically dedicated to Data Suff

1st, you must know the fundamentals of math

2nd, if you do not do well in Problem Solving, you probably won't do well in DS (see #1)

Best resources:

This website, go through the resources and some messages so that you can learn the logic.

Try Manhattan GMAT books for the fundamentals. At the end of each book there is a Data Suff section that covers the topics in that particular book (you need the Official Guide as a supplement). The key is to practice..practice..know the fundamentals...practice..practice

To elaborate

There are 2 question types

one asks you to find a specific answer

the other one is a yes/no question (starts with "is")

You must differentiate between the two...
finding a specific answer is the easiest..

You must stay organized when working the problems..don't assume something on #2 from #1..stay organized to keep these isolated

Hi Mclaughlin,

The Strategies laid out in Princeton Review is really good and it helps a lot in understanding the mechanics of the DS questions.

Hope it helps.
