Please go to Page 24 to find the passage on Coral Reefs .
Could an expert explain why the answer to Q7 is B . The 1st Para has no mention of Human Interference .
the MGMAT Rc guide says that for Main Idea Questions , when we have a tuf time deciding between 2 choices we could allocate points to the options depending on which para the option is mentioned. That is , if the option finds mention in the 1st para , we allocate 2 points to it and if it is present in a Body Para, we allocate 1 point .
So Option B has 1 point since its only mentioned in the 2nd para
Whereas Option D has 2 points because it s present in the 1st Para.
Please Help .
Even if we neglect this method , i want a reason justifying B as the answer because B finds no mention in the 1st Para

the "point system" is an approximation; it's a guessing method that is meant to be used if you basically don't know what's going on in a passage. like other guessing methods, it will be wrong some of the time.
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR UNDERSTANDING!
THERE IS NO FORMULA FOR RC!
THERE ARE NO MEMORIZABLE RULES THAT CAN SUBSTITUTE FOR UNDERSTANDING!

you have to analyze the relationships between the different things in the passage, in order to figure out the most logical reason why the passage includes the stuff that it includes.

*IF* the main idea were (d), then the second paragraph would be absolutely pointless and irrelevant -- because it makes no contribution to (d).

with main idea (b), the first paragraph makes sense in context -- it provides background facts that help the reader understand why the things in the second paragraph are happening.
