How AWA score is perceived

by smiling » Thu Nov 06, 2008 3:02 am
Hi Stacy,

I got GMAT V47 (79th) Q39 (87th) Overall 700 (90th). I'm gonna re-take in Dec '08 and hope to get 740 or over. My dream school is University of Chicago GSB.

I got 5/6 for AWA which I thought was fine, but looking at the Official Score Report: 55%

Is this too low? I'm not so confident in improving AWA score as I don't read US news frequently and don't have much samples. Afraid it's too late to start now..

Thank you in advance..

Dear smiling,

As long as your AWA is at least a 5, you should not worry. Since the scale for the AWA is only 0-6, there percentiles are different. Thus it is the actual score that matters on the AWA, not the percentile.

Good luck,
Lisa
