football players are less

30 percent of the men are more than 25 years old and 80 percent of the men are less than or equal to 50 years old. 20 percent of all men play football. If 20 percent of the men above the age of 50 play football, what percentage of the football players are less than or equal to 50 years?
(A) 15
(B) 20
(C) 50
(D) 70
(E) 80

Assume pop = 100
80% < = 50 yrs
20% of pop play football or 20 play football of the total pop
20% play football are > 50yrs
i.e 4 of them who play football are > 50
means 16 of them who play football are < 20
i.e 80% of 20

Changing my answer from 20 to 80 . Sorry it is not fair, I agree

Say 100 total Men

The 30% > 25 is irrelevant as far as I can tell.

80% of men <= 50 = 80 Men
Remaining 20% of Men are >50 = 20 Men

20% of men playing football = 20 total men playing football. This is our divisor.

"If 20 percent of the men above the age of 50 play football" = 20 (from above) * .20 = 4 men of the 20 total men playing football are over the age of 50, therefore the 16 remaining men are <= 50.

So we get:

16 / 20 = 80% E is my choice.

Total men = T & football players = 20% of T = .2 T

No. of men <=50 is 80%*T. Hence, >50 is 20%*T.

Now, football players with age > 50 is 20% OF 20%*T = .04 T.

Hence, football players with age < = 50 = .2T - .04 T = .16T.

.16 T is 20 % of .8T ( men with age <= 50 ).

IMO B
"If 20 percent of the men above the age of 50 play football" = 20 (from above) * .20 = 4 men of the 20 total men playing football are over the age of 50, therefore the 16 remaining men are <= 50.

So we get:

16 / 20 = 80% E is my choice.

I think you need to divide by 80 in the last step, as men with age <=50 are 80 in your method.
