GMAT Speed and Accuracy

GMAT experts, I need your guidance on the following:

I have finished revising MGMAT 5 guides. Now all I want to do is increase my speed and accuracy.

1. Do you have any posts or tips to increase speed and accuracy?
2. Any place where I can find questions on a certain type at one place. I was thinking of solving 15-20 probs on a particular topic each day. Do you think it is a good strategy? Any recommendations.
3. Next step would be to take full length practice tests. Any recommendation to utilize the best tests with least expense?

Please advise I will be waiting for your response.

Hi Dblooos,

From your post it sounds like you have not taken any FULL-LENGTH CATs yet. Is that the case? If it is, then it would be a good idea to take one soon (possibly this weekend). You should take the FULL CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) in a realistic and test-like fashion, so we can get a sense of your current strengths and weaknesses. Once you have your scores, you should report back here and we can talk through how you should proceed.

1) What is your score goal?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?

One tip I have is to start off doing questions slowly and seek to get a high hit rate. Then, once you have developed skills and approaches that get you to right answers consistently, you can speed up.

Working on and becoming expert in one area at a time is a great way to prepare for the GMAT. Some topics might be worth spending more than one day on.

For quant go to the GMAT section of https://bellcurves.com/ and set up a practice account. Then go to the practice questions, which you can use to prepare in the way you described.

For verbal go to https://www.veritasprep.com/gmat-question-bank/.
3. Next step would be to take full length practice tests. Any recommendation to utilize the best tests with least expense?
The highest quality, most accurate practice tests are those provided by GMAC on the GMAT Prep software. To get the first two, which are free, go to mba.com and set up an account, which you will need anyway to sign up for the GMAT. Then download the GMAT Prep software.

In addition, I believe you got access to six MGMAT practice tests with the MGMAT guides. If you want even more tests, Veritas is currently, for five more days, offering seven practice tests for $20.

I suggest that before you start doing that area by area practice, you take a GMAT Prep practice test, to get a sense of how the test actually looks and to assess what you need to get better at in order to achieve your score goal. Then maybe save the second GMAT Prep test for later in your preparation and use MGMAT or Veritas tests in between. If you want though, you can buy two more GMAT Prep tests, by the way.

Rich,

I would post my full-test length test score shortly, had to undergo a surgery last week. Trying to recover from it. My target score is >730 and I am planning to take test on 12/01/2015.

HI Dblooos,

With a December 1st Test Date, you have plenty of time to continue studying, which is good. That initial CAT score will help to define how close you are to your score goal and what you'll need to focus on going forward, so it's important to take that CAT in as realistic of a fashion as you can.
