How to interpret my practice test scores

by pavithra » Tue Mar 20, 2007 7:35 pm
Hi all,

I need help to interpret my practice test scores.

GMAT Prep : Q45/V36 Overall :660

MGMAT Non adaptive: Q40/V32 Overall: 590

MGMAT Adaptive: Q45/V40 Overall: 700

I took the non-adaptive on the first day and adaptive the next day. How could there be so much of a difference in a day? Is the MGMAT adaptive test closer to the actual GMAT test in terms of difficulty level?

Would appreciate any insights.

Thanks
Pavithra

By experience on reading others posts I can safely conclude that GMATPrep is the closest possible indicator of ur score ... but then I've seen loads of exceptions

for MGMAT I'd go for CAT however I think they are quite easier... Stacey might answer this better

Hi

Thanks for your input. Do you think I could still practice with the MGMAT and then take the 2nd GMATPrep test a day or two before the exam?

I have read some people dont even look at the practice scores right before the test. They just take the test to practice the feel of the test.

Agree that GMATPrep is the best. The non-adaptive test is not a good indicator of score - it's just good for practicing timing and questions.

Also agree that you should save your second GMATPrep for a week or two before the actual test. Good luck! :)

I just took the GMATPrep practice test cold (no review) and scored 690. How confident can I be in that score as an indication of my performance? The reason I am wondering is that I took the GMAT about 11 years ago and scored a 610. I like to think that I am smarter now than I was back then, but not sure if I can be confident in the GMATPrep as an indication...

I would love to score in the high sixes but not sure what to attribute the improvement too.

Did you take the test under exact official conditions? Essays @ 30 min each, 8 min break, quant @ 75m, 8 min break, verbal @ 75m?

If you did, then you can assume that your current score range is about +/- 30 to 40 points (so 650/660 to 720/730) - which is great, obviously.

If you didn't, then depending upon how you deviated from official conditions, your score may be somewhat inflated. (eg, if you skipped the essays, then your multiple choice score might have been helped by not having had to spend an hour writing first.)
