The Dancing Doll line sold slightly more than $3.5 million worth of toys last year, 40% mroe than the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and newarly 3 times as much as the Basic Blocks line's sales.

A. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and newarly 3 times as much as the Basic Blocks line's sales
B. the Teeny Tiny Trucks did and nearly 3 times what the Basic Blocks' sales were
C. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line sold and nearly 3 times as much as Basic Blocks' sales.
D. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly 3 times more than Basic Blocks' sales
E. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly 3 times more than the Basic Blocks line

IMO
C. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line sold and nearly 3 times as much as Basic Blocks' sales.

Reason: the statement '40% more than...' should compare the Dancing Doll line's sales and not the line itself.

Although I am not sure, can someone clarify and explain please. :)

IMO B

For A and C, we cannot use 3 Times with "as much as".

D and E have incorrect comparison and also change the meaning of sentence. "3 times more", seems that it will be sales of Dancing line exceed the sales of Basic blocks by 4 times. Further "3 times" indicate multiplication, there should be a countable object following 3 times.

Left with B.

I would go with E because, "40% more than the Teeny Tiny Trucks line" is parallel to "nearly 3 times more than the Basic Blocks line".

dancing dolls

i think it will be B. We are comparing the sales and GMAT expects us to be clear with what is being compared. Though E sounds good the sales aspect is not getting reflected properly. Here sales of X is getting compared with y's sales and Z's Sales.

Pls clarify..

IMO the answer is E
reasons: The Dancing Doll line should be parralel with others, so the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and Basic Blocks line in E perfectly fullfil this gap

I have been rusty as I havent been preparing SC for sometime. So I might be wrong. IMO E. Here is why.

B,C,D wrong because of the usage of Basic Blocks and Teeny Tiny Trucks instead of Basic Blocks line and Teeny Tiny Trucks line respectively.
That leaves A and E. Consider A and split it.

The Dancing Doll line sold 40% more than the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did
The Dancing Doll line sold nearly 3 times as much as the Basic Blocks line's sales.
(Wrong comparison between italicized text)

That leaves E. In fact, as opposed to the view of comparison of sales, I feel that the companies themselves are being compared and not their sales.

Sreak, "40% more than the Teeny Tiny Trucks line" itself is underlined. So how can you assume that we have to make the sentence parallel to this? I think we have to make the rest of the comparisons parallel to non underlined sentence. Right?
Think again for right answer with right reasoning :-)

Just a caution. I have seen in many questions that GMAT comfortably exchanges "more" with "as much as". So do not assume this. I think GMAT verbal makers' quant knowledge is not much :wink: Just kidding.
