Is it grammaticaly correct to place a comma after and?

Here , as sources of building material and firewood, is extra information about forests. Consider as a non-restrictive phrase and remove it to construe the actual sentence.

Follow the verbs "remove, conserve, house, supply, and provide."

The comma after "and" is only grammatical when the phrase set off by the pair of commas is parenthetical (I went to the store and, unfortunately, found it was closed) or when the word "and" is being used as a word in a list (Coordinating conjunctions include and, but, and so).

In continuation of the above discussion, I would like to know if this is correct or not.

While they remove carbon dioxide from the air, conserve soil and water, and house thousands of species, forests also supply potentially valuable pharmaceuticals, and sources of building material and firewood.

I think it is wrong, as bold part is not in parallel with remove, conserve, house and supply.

Please clear my doubt.

In general, I am thinking, in GMAT is it correct this kind of parallelism?

hi instructor ,
i hav a question about answer choice "A" -IF WE REMOVE A MODIFIER AFTER phamaceuticals(cuz they are set off in commas)
then THAT wud refer to pharmaceuticals , isnt this sentence right?

Jim, i think in case of lists, we don't put COMMA AFTER AND.
Rather the pattern is,

X AND Y
OR
X, Y, AND Z
