Over 75% of the energy produced in France derives from nuclear power, while in Germany it is just over 33%.

A) while in Germany it is just over 33%
B) compared to Germany, which uses just over 33%
C) whereas nuclear power accounts for just over 33% of the energy produced in Germany
D) whereas just over 33% of the energy comes from nuclear power in Germany
E) compared with the energy from nuclear power in Germany, where it is just over 33%

First:

The DEADLY "IT":

It MUST have a singular referent. The following are the candidates:

The energy
France
nuclear power

if we substitute these possible referent for it, we get the following:

The energy is over 33%
France is over 33%
Nuclear power is over 33%

None of the above makes sense.

We can eliminate AS and E.

Second:

X compared to Y:, where X and Y must be grammatically parallel.

Over 75% of energy, compared to Germany --Here the comparison is not correct. % of energy has been compared with Germany. We can eliminate B.

Third:

D changes the intended meaning of the sentence. D means that all of the energy in France that comes from Nuclear energy 33% comes from the nuclear power that is in Germany.

We can eliminate D.

Answer: C
