cyclist rided 5/3 miles in 5 minutes and stoped

in that time hiker went 1/3 miles

distance between hiker and cyclist will be 5/3 - 1/3 = 4/3

distance/rate = time
(4/3)/4 = 1/3 hour or 20 minutes

The question said the cyclist waited for 5 minutes so how do we know he travelled for 5 minutes after passing the walker

Please help me understand. Thanks!

Read the question again and realized my interpretation was incorrect.

The cyclist travels for 5 minutes and then stops and waits. I get it now; thanks!
