Gmat Pref : avarages

by drgmatIL » Tue Aug 12, 2008 3:11 am
I know it cannot be 140 or 130. it must be under the avarage
I took for example the situation when all the spices are 140 and the shortest is 60
so median is 140 ; avarage 124
but why 90 is wrong?

thanks

it has to be 100.

total is 124*5 = 620.

if 3 are of 140 = 3*140 =420.

thus with 2 woods u need to make it 200.( 620-420)

u can either choose 90 for the smallest and other one as 110.

but

u can also choose the two to be 100 each .

the question stem asks u for the maximum possible length of the shortest wood.

hence it shud be 100.

hope it helps...
