easy but tricky

60. ----P---R----M----S-----
In the number line, R is zero, M is midpoint between P and S, and PR=1/3PS. What is P?
1). M is 1.5
2). S is 6

69. The sales price of a certain item is D, and the sales tax is P percent. If someone paid $20 for the item and got change of C, is the sales price greater than $15?
1). C<5
2). P=6

Ontopofit, can you explain? For the first question Im able to solve it with C, but not with D.

As for question 69, I am also a bit lost. Let me explain. What we know is that:
dp=20-c

Statement 1 implies that dp=20-4.99=15.01. Now, assuming that d=15, then 15p=15.01. Then, d in this case cannot be greater than 15. But if c=2, then 15d=20-2=18, and now the price can be above 15. Am i right?

in 60
let distance b/w PS = x

then PR = x/3
and PM = x/2
statement 1) M=1.5
so, x/2- x/3 = 1.5, x=9,and P=-3;hence suff

statement 2)
RS = 6 = 2x/3
so x=9, P=-3;hence suff.

D

in 69 I was wrong and did it in a hurry,

its E
statement 1) C<5,if but P is not given so u cannot determine whether D is <>15.
statement 2) alone also does not tell anything coz we dont know C.
taking both if C = 4.9 then D is less than 15.
if C is .00001 then D is more than 15

hence E.

plz dont write in subject that a question is easy.esp in DS. :wink:
