Do I have to be familiar with all American units of measurement (inch, foot and so on) in order to be fully prepared for distance word problems on the GMAT ? If not, which are the most common ? Thank you !
AFAIK, you are not required to know any units of measurement. If there is any conversion involved, it will be given in the question itself.
Mostly, all units in the question will be the same (like all $ or all £ for currency etc.)
If, at any point, the question expect you to convert lbs to Kg, the conversion will be given in the question.
