choices were between A and E

choose A because nothing wrong with the sentence
choice E also correct but changes the meaning

according to E, some proceedings were carried live
according to A, no proceedings were carried live

Can someone explain why choose E over A?

Although is a contrast word; considering this the sentence would read:

Although ...soviet audiences have seen a great deal of coverage.
By reading the sentence this way and seeing that this one confernece was not live, the reader can understand that not all the conferneces were live.

I will go with E.
