imo C is the answer caves are plural hence have been is required. diffilculty is singular hence is to be used. what is oa

sub for first verb is singular thet is the period and therfore we need has been
ans sub for second verb is to determine singular so is
option D is correct

We have a list of three nouns phrases after "is".....Do not we need "are" here????
Actually, I have been screwed up many times by such questions. Please explain in detail what is the rule to tackle these kind of questions.
