33. Many teenagers undergo stress, but results of a recent study indicate that the patterns of stress that girls experience are more likely to result in depression than are those that boys experience.
A are those that boys experience
B what boys experience
C boys' experience would
D boys' stress patterns do
E stress patterns of boys

How to choose between
A & D
. I think both are grammital correct.

A are those that boys experience
B what boys experience
C boys' experience would
D boys' stress patterns do
E stress patterns of boys

If those precedent will be replaced we will see the sentence as :
the patterns ... that girls experience are more likely to result in depression than are the patterns ... that boys experience

Compared with E the stress pattern is definetly wrong.

what in B can not be used properly

C boys' experience is not comparable breaks parallelism

D and E seems to have similar issue albeit in a different manner.

How to choose between
A & D
. I think both are grammital correct.
A is the correct answer and D cant be the correct answer becos
first of all, the sentence compares " the patterns of stress of girls" with " the patterns of stress of boy"
second the " verb" is used in the sentences is " are" so " do" used in D is not suitable.
finally " boys's stress patterns do" is akwark and since it compares " S" to " S" so we dont need the "verb" ( tobe " are" or " do") here
hope it helps a bit

Hi Pesfunk,

If we put an "are" in front of E Option then would that option be correct than?

In ellipsis questions such as these (where few words are assumed), you should always first draft the most complete sentence (in your mind) and then scan the options to see which one comes nearest to the most complete sentence.

So, the complete sentence would be:

Many teenagers undergo stress, but results of a recent study indicate that the patterns of stress that girls experience are more likely to result in depression than patterns of stress that boys experience are likely to result in.

Now see how A is closest to this:

Many teenagers undergo stress, but results of a recent study indicate that the patterns of stress that girls experience are more likely to result in depression than those (patterns of stress) that boys experience are (likely to result in).

D has a parallelism issue, since first part of the sentence has patterns of stress that girls experience while the second part of the sentence has boys' stress patterns.

Agreeing to what have been told above, "boys' stress patterns do" in Choice D brings in the possessiveness that is not required or is unparallel. It would have gone well had it been the case that "girls' stress patterns" was in the actual sentence.Kindly suggest if I am wrong.
