MGMAT vs real GMAT

by darky » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:19 am
Hi all,

I'm sorry for posting this topic once again (you've maybe already read it 734972349184 times), but I'm a little bit dissapointed about my results and just wanted to ask about your opinion.

I wrote GMAT on January, 19th and got 590. Because the min required from the universities I want to apply to is 600, I'll write it again on Thursday.

Although, I had only the last two weeks for preparation, I'm feeling definetely better prepared. However, duing the last 5 day I made the MGMAT CATS 1-5 with the following results:

CAT 1: 630 (44Q, 32V)
CAT 2: 620 (45Q, 31V)
CAT 3: 650 (45Q, 34V)
CAT 4: 600 (43Q, 31V)
CAT 5: 600 (44Q, 30V)

Since MGMAT test are tought to be more difficult compared to the real exam, do you think it's possible for me to score more 600? :((

Thanks in advance!

It is definitely possible... Looking at your scores it seems like your true GMAT score is around 620-630. As the GMAT has a standard deviation of roughly 30 points, 600 is definitely a possibility. However, if 630 is your score you have about an 85% chance of scoring at least that on your exam. Hope that helps.

First of all, you are the first person who think MGMAT tests are more difficult. I generally scored more than 50 points lower in GMAT prep when compared to MGMAT ( last mgmat:690, last gmat prep:630) . I don't know what is exactly different between mgmat and gmat prep but my best guess is the meaning questions in SC part. If you are capable to understand the meaning of all the complex sentence, you probably can accomplish to get the score you wish. But if you are a non-native who has problem to grasp the meaning of the questions (just like me), don't surprise when you get a mid-500 score. I also need to add that if your weakness is the math, you will probably get a higher score than your Mgmat scores.
