quick question about "greater"

by capnx » Thu Nov 26, 2009 5:16 pm
If the question says: average of a, b, c, is one third greater than a, does it mean:

1) (a+b+c)/3 = a + (1/3)
or
2) (a+b+c)/3 = a + (1/3)a

so does "greater" mean multiple while "more" means addition?

thanks

Imo it should be a+1/3

if the wordings are 1/3 times greater than IMO a+1/3*a
