by ccarson » Fri Aug 31, 2007 12:16 pm
There is a triangle marked "X". There is a square on each side, labeled "A", "B", and "C" respectively. the area of square A= 144, B= 81, and C= 225. Question asks to find the area of triangle X.

a) 150
B) 144
C) 80
D) 54
E) 36

Answer is D. I know the base of the triangle is 15 and the other two sides are 12 and 9 respectively. I can't find a simple way of solving for the height.

9^2 + 12^2 = 15^2. So, its a right triangle.
