Hello,
I took the GMAT last year (05/30/2013) and scored 710 (Q48 V39).
I'm taking the GMAT again in a week. I have heard that b-schools accept the highest valid GMAT score but I wanted to confirm the same.
Could you please tell me whether a lower score on my second attempt will in anyway go against me or will the schools blindly consider my higher score?

KG5390,

There's no way to know exactly what a Business School will think about more than 1 GMAT score, but the general rule of thumb is that Business Schools don't care if you take the GMAT more than once. With a 710/Q48, I have to ask why you decided to retake the GMAT? You're already at the 90th percentile overall. Were you advised to retake?

Thank you for the quick reply Rich.

Well I'm from the so called "Indian IT Male" applicant pool :)
In the coming months before R1 deadlines there is no way that my work could make any difference to my profile. As I had a month to prep for the GMAT, I thought that a 30 point increase would be the most noticeable difference that I could hope for.

I agree that there's no way to know exactly what a Business School will think about more than 1 attempt but what would it think about a lower score on the second attempt? Will it consider the higher score that I got a year back or will it tend to go with the more recent score?

Hi KG5390,

The best source of information regarding a school's policies IS the school itself, so I'd suggest that you contact whichever school's you're planning to apply to and ask. That's really the only way to know for sure (since schools may have individual quirks to their application review processes).
