Is x a positive number?

I would say yes, x is a positive number, as there is not a negative number that will satisfy both equations. OA?

IMO C

x + 6 > 2 implies x > -4
x^2 > 25 implies either x > 5, or x < -5

Hence, x has to be > 5. Hence, x is positive.

I think the answer is E

If x>-4, x could be either positive or negative, Insufficent

If x>5 or x<-5, x could be either positive or negative, insufficent.

Looking at both together, we cannot tell if x>0 from the three inequalities we have.

Answer is C. It has to be C because when you combine both statements you are ask whether: the sign next to numbers, where x>-4 and x^2>25, is positive. The answer has to be where the combined statements are rue. For the both statements to be true, the values of x are, x>6 and for that range we get positive numbers, therefore, C

Is x Pos?

1) X+6> 2 therefore, x>-4. Could be either pos or neg.

Insuf.

2) x^2>25 so x^2-25>0 factor down: (x-5)(x+5)>0

so x-5>0 x>5 or x+5>0 x>-5 . Eithere way, the answer cannot lie in the middle. It means x is pos.

That is my take. What do you guys think?

I noticed that the signs switched in some of your explanations. I understood the sign not to change only if you are dividing or multiplying with a negative value.

Good Question...!!

i think answer will be C.

Statement 1 - x > -4
Statement 2 - x > 5 or x < -5

combining 1 and 2, x cannot be less than -5 otherwise statement 1 will not be true.
