Yes. You are right they multiplied the equation with -2.
Its a method to solve for x & y in simultaneous equations.

thank you. I actually figured it out myself. I clearly have a lot of refreshing to do in the math. lol.

I forgot that you can manipulate an equation as long as you do the same thing to both sides. In this case they did -2 on both sides in order to make the x's cancel themselves out.
