Statement 1: x(y+5) is even

if y = odd, then x can be even or odd. Insufficient.

Statement 2: 6y^2 + 41y + 25 is even

no info on x. Insufficient.

Both statements together:

6y^2 + 41y + 25 = even
6y^2 + 41y = even - 25 = odd
6y^2 + 41y = odd
y(6y + 41) = odd

so y must be odd. as we had deduced in statement 1, if y is odd, we cannot determine if x is even or odd. Insufficient.

Choose E.
