Say, the number is n.
Therefore, four-fifth of the number = (4/5)*n = (4n/5)
Therefore, three-fourth of the number = (3/4)*n = (3n/4)

According to the problem,
  • four-fifth of the number = three-fourth of the number + 4
    => (4n/5) = (3n/4) + 4
    => 16n = 15n + 80
    => n = 80

    Hence the number is 80.

(4/5)x - (3/4)x = 4

x = 80
