Another practice q from GMATPrep's question bank that I don't quite understand, my only question is, how is "adequate amountS of sleep" correct? (the plural form of amount)

Without adequate amounts of sleep, people's newly acquired skills and also new factual information may not get properly encoded into their memory circuits.

Correct answer:

"If people do not get adequate amounts of sleep, newly acquired skills and even"

GMATPrep's official explanation of the above answer does not mention anything about "amounts of sleep" which I thought was absolutely incorrect when I read the question.

According to me,since we are talking about "people" here so usage of Amounts is fine.. as we are referring different figure for many people.

Different people have different amounts of sleep. The solution below is taken from the GMATFix App.
