If x and y are positive, is x^3 > y?
(1) Sq Root x > y
(2) x > y

OA is E

My problem is my approach is too tedious and time consuming..

Can someone help simplify the problem so that the next time i see it it takes a little less than 8 mins to do this ****

IMO : E

1) is not sufficient try these two (x,y) pairs (4,1) and (.4,.1)
2) same two pairs above give different answers hence not sufficient.

usually for such Q's choosing numbers helps...it took me less than 2 mins for this...
