A car traveled from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 6 hours at an average rate of x miles per hour. If the car
returned along the same route at an average rate of y miles per hour, how long did it take for the car to make the entire round trip, in minutes?

distance between LA and S-F is 6x; the trip back was timed as 6x/y hours
we need to find time in minutes (6+ 6x/y)*60= 360(x+y)/y

Hi,

please always post both the source of your question and the answer choices. This question is tailor-made for picking numbers, but because you haven't included the choices we can't demonstrate that approach for you.
