IMO C

I think the use of 'have' is needed to maintain paralleism, with the other have in the first part of the sentence.......but Im not 2 sure.

OA pls

IMO it should be (E).

The decisions of John Marshall, the fourth chief justice, have had a greater influence than those of any other chief justice in history.

*those* have to be used immediately after *than* to correctly point to *decisions*.

OA??

Should be E. We need to have "any other" in this kind of comparison. So narrowed down to B, C, and E. ONly E carries "those" for "the decisions".
Looking for 780~

Answer is E.

In C, usage of Have not required for parallelism. What is OA?

"The decisions of John Marshall, the fourth chief justice, have had a greater influence than any chief justice in history.
(C) than have those of any chief justice in history
(E) than those of any other chief justice in history "

Notice that John Marshall was a chief justice. He can't have had more influence than 'any chief justice in history', because that would mean he had more influence than himself, which is nonsensical. He can only have had more influence than 'any other chief justice', which is why E is preferable to C.

Nice!... Ian's post makes sense.. its so weird thought that we use (C) so often !!... (E) seems correct now.

i completely agree wid Ian...though i would like to add a little more to it...even if 'was' was not there in the sentence, E would make more sense. thats because even in the present, one cant be better than himself... :D
