Work Problems - Multiple People

I am studying for GMAT and I have come upon a problem I simple can't understand. Please, help:

If Carol can finish a job in 5 hours and Steve can finish the same job in 10 hours, how many minutes will it take both of them together to finish the job?

The formula is simply: 1/a + 1/b = 1/r

a = time of person A

b = time of person B

r = combined time

1/a = rate of person a; 1/b = rate of person b

1 is the "work" that they are doing, it could be building 25 boxes or painting a wall, or building 200 cars.

The answer is 1/(1/5+1/10)
