Three grades of milk: 1%, 2%, and 3% fat by volume. X gallons of 1%, y gallons of 2%, and z gallons of 3% are mixed to give x + y + z gallons of 1.5%. What is x in terms of y and z?

oa: y+3z

i try to solve x/100 + 2y/100 + 3z/100 = 3(x+y+z)/200 for x and i don't get y+3z... can someone pls help me?

you are on the right track:

x/100 + 2y/100 + 3z/100 = 3x/200 + 3y/200 + 3z/200.

(2y/100 - 3y/200) + (3z/100 - 3z/200) = 3x/200 - x/100.

(4y-3y)/200 + (6z - 3z)/200 = (3x - 2x)/200

y/200 + 3z/200 = x/200

Multiply both sides by 200.

y + 3z = x
