by tj123 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 12:42 am
If an equilateral triangle and a square have the same area, what is the ratio of one side of the triangle to one side of the square?

a) 2:3
b) 16:3
c) 4: Squareroot(3)
d) 2: Quadrupal root of (3)
e) 4: quadrupal root of (3)

d

I have no idea how to answer this

According to the question:

Area of Equi. triangle = Area of Square

So, [((3)^1/2) * ((a)^2)]/4 = (b)^2

where a = side of equi. triangle
b= side of square

Solving the above equation, a/b = 2/[(3)^(/1/4)]

Hence (d)
