e, in order that he would marry

Pls, explain why A and E in wrong. D is correct one.

'so as to' is generally wromg. Look for correct so...that option.

Also avoid "In order to" constructions.

could you tell me why "so as to" and "in order to" is wrong and should be avoided respectively.

D is correct because it clarifies who is marrying whom.

IDIOM:

so that - purpose

and so - result

the form "so as to" is idiomatically incorrect, the correct form should be "so + Adj + as to + Verb" (e.g. the insults was so offensive as to declare war"

In the case at hand, the Henry's purpose was to marry Anne so the corret idiom to state that is "so that"

Why" in order to" is wrong. when "in order to" is used, the subject is still correct and clear who want to marry.

In GMAT land, order to is not preferable if equivalent options are present. Though order to is not wrong but still we go for better idiomatic expression. For example when we say "rather than" is better than "instead of".. we dont have any specific reason. Sometimes when all choices contain "instead of", we have to go with it...

The conditional would marry is wrong tense in this sentence.
