I think this problem can help a few of uus.. its a good concept
just in case it was not posted earlier ..


If the average of 5 numbers is 62 what is the range
1) The average of 4 largest numbers is 74
2) The average of 4 smallest numbers is 40

Answer C

a,b,c,d,e are five no-s, their sum is 62*5 or 310; find range e-a?
st(1) 4 big no-s' sum is 74*4 or 308, hence the smallest no is 2 (310-308), BUT we don't know the largest no-Not Sufficient;
st(2) 4 small no-s' sum is 40*4 or 160, hence the largest no is 150 (310-160), BUT we don't know the smallest no-Not Sufficient;
Combined st(1&2) should be sufficient, as a=2 and e=150, range -> 148 (150-2)
