What is the value of x?

(1) The average (arithmetic mean) of 5, x ^ 2, 2, 10 x, and 3 is -3.

(2) The median of 109, -32, -30, 208, -15, x, 10, -43, 7 is -5.

(2) The median of 109, -32, -30, 208, -15, x, 10, -43, 7 is -5.
Statement 1:
(x^2 + 10x + 10)/5 = -3
x^2 + 10x + 10 = -15
x^2 + 10x + 25 = 0
(x + 5)^2 = 0
x = -5. Sufficient.

Statement 2:
The median of -5 must appear within the data list. Since all other values (besides x) are not -5, so x must be -5. Sufficient.

Choose D.
