My date with GMAT!!

by Gavan » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:06 am
HI all, I took my GMAT in May and scored 630 (Q50,V25,AWA4.5). I'm disappointed with my effort and completely clueless about what to do next.
My mock test details: -

GMAT prep1 700 (Q48 V36) - few repeated questions in verbal
GMAT prep2 670 (Q49 V33) - few repeated questions in verbal
MGMAT1 640 (Q47 V31)
MGMAT2 700 (Q47 V38)
Varitas 630 (Q45 V33)
MGMAT3 640 (Q49 V30)
MGMAT4 640 (Q48 V31)
Princeton 640 (Q51 V28)
MGMAT5 660 (Q47 V33)
MGMAT1 660 (Q51 V32)

All the tests were given in real GMAT conditions. I've followed OG & MGMAT books for preparation.
My profile:
Indian & BTech with 3.2 GPA
9 years of IT experience with decent credentials
I'm unable to decide whether I should give 2nd try or I should apply with this score. Please also let me know in which colleges can I apply with this score.

Thanks,

gmat is harsh on the verbal side.your score crossed 600 because of your quant score or it would have been worse.the gave gmat some time back and i too scored 630.i felt really bad and when i came i tried to understand the scoring pattern. It might that you didn't make so many mistakes as the score represents.in gmat prep once when i got 17 questions wrong i got a score of 19 while another time i got 30.it was just that at the time when the score was 17 i got 8 out 11 questions wrong in series. So go for 1 more exam.

Hello,

I'm sure you will have some target schools. Please check the score
distribution of the current batch in respective schools to understand
where you stand. Depending on how rest of your application looks, your
GMAT score may be good enough. Please check with some experts.

But, beyond all those issues, you should probably answer the following
questions

- Do you think you can do better ?
- If so, what do you think will be a realistic score ?
- Are you willing to do what it takes to achieve the score ?

If the answer to 1 & 3 are yes, you should probably give a retry. Take
it as a challenge and conquer the test!!

All the best and if you need some help, please reach out.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply folks. I'm in process to convince myself for retake but need to check how much time I can give to study. Please let me how much time I have before deadlines and how to plan for verbal study.
