Hello,
I just took my GMAT today for the second time and received a 490 (27Q, 31V). The first time I took it was several months ago and I received a 430 (21Q, 27V). After the first test, I took a break for several months, did not study, and debated whether or not I wanted to continue to pursue this journey at all. But this summer I dusted myself off and decided to get back on the horse. I enrolled myself in a prep course and studied for about two months until test day. Although I'm happy to see improvement from my first test, I still feel I can at least pull off a mid-500 score, maybe higher. I scored between a 460-550 during my practice tests this time around (my last one being the highest at 33Q 33V), so I feel that I will score better if I continue to practice. I want to enroll for 2012 so I am considering to re-take it in one to two months.
Do you think retaking it and scoring possibly in the mid-500s would be worth it for me in terms of the admissions process? Also, although my dream is to go to a top-school like Stern or USC, what are my chances of getting into a CSU in California? For example, I heard that your chances are good if you score a 500 for a school like CSULB, but I just checked their website and the school states "80% GMAT range is 560 to 630". Is this a recent increase/ reliable??? It sounds really inflated to me for CSULB, but maybe I was misinformed. I hear different averages and ranges for schools all the time, so it's difficult for me to properly evaluate my application.
Any recommendations/ advice for my situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help!!!
