I think smt I means the GCF of x and y must be 10
Some pairs of numbers could be:
x=10 y=10
x=50 y=70
x=10 y=20
In any of the paitrs of numbers above the GCF is 10
Basically the statement means x and y are both even so stmt II is reduntant and 2 * 5 will be the GCF of x and Y

P.S : Just my suggestion, Ian or others please correct me if I am mistaken.
For number properties questions or remainder problems if a theoritical or a conceptual solution evades u then pick some numbers that adhere to the constraints given in the problem. If u start seeing a pattern from any of the info in the individual statements and other info given in the question chances are most likely that statement is SUFFICIENT.
