Apples and Oranges

If 8 apples and 10 oranges cost as much as 22 apples and 4 oranges, how much
does a combination of 7 oranges and 3 apples cost?
1. An orange costs $0.01 more than an apple
2. The ratio of the price of an orange to the price of an apple is 7:3

Let cost of apples = x, oranges = y, we need to find 3x + 7y

8x + 10y = 22x + 4y
=> 14x - 6y = 0
=> 7x -3y = 0

(1) y = x + 0.01

Using it with the original equation, we have 2 unknowns and 2 variables, hence solvable, sufficient

(2) y/x = 7/3 => 3y = 7x => 3y - 7x = 0 => 7x -3y = 0.
This is the same as we have in the question stem, so not sufficient to get the value of 3x + 7y

Hence, (A)
