E IMO
Statement 1 is not sufficient
f x = 0
sqrt((-3)^2) = 3
sqrt(9) = 3
but sqrt 9 = -3 or 3
Statement 2 suggest that x will be a negative number as other wise -x.|x| cannot be greater than 0
if x = -3
sqrt((-3-3)^2) = 3- (-3)
sqrt(36) = 6
Statement 2 is no good as the LHS can be -6 or 6
Both statements bring us to the same conclusion. So C is out as well. E
