Last Few Days Before G-Day

by ls413 » Tue May 03, 2011 6:58 pm
Hi Everyone,
I am taking the exam for the first time this Saturday (in 4 days). I have been studying for about 7 months, and in my heart I feel like I have done the most that I can do at this point. For some reason, however, I cannot seem to tear myself away from the study guides. The Verbal section is typically easy for me, but the Quant section is always tough and it will really come down to what questions I get on test day. So, how soon before the exam do you put the books away and say "enough is enough"? Is it bad practice to be studying the day before the exam instead of relaxing?

Thanks!

Hey LS,

Big week! I know exactly where you're coming from with nervous energy and all of that. My philosophy - you're not going to get much smarter the day before the test, but there's a fair risk of shaking your confidence or blowing your opportunity to rest. So the day before the test, there's probably a lot more downside to studying than upside. I'd just take a little bit of time to reflect on the major themes of your thought process and remind yourself of the handful of mistakes that you know you need to be aware of and accordingly avoid. It may seem strange to "do nothing", but try to limit the amount of time you spend to an hour or less, and do it more to keep your mind well-oiled and not to risk straining or intimidating yourself.

This article from our blog may be helpful with that strategy, too: https://www.veritasprep.com/blog/2009/07 ... e-week-41/

Good luck this weekend!
