failed gmat miserably 370....I'm definately retaking it

After studying for 5 weeks i took the GMAT for the first time today and scored 370 Q19 V23 (never even thought that i could get such a low score). I have studied OG12 Kaplan 800, Peterson's Master the GMAT but it looks like that failed me. I'm going to retake the GMAT end of April and willing to put 7-8 hour a day to achieve 650+ score. I need a clear direction and proved strategy. I have always been good in math both in high school and college so I'm not sure what really happened today. The first week of preparation i took GmatPrep test and scored 370. After two weeks i took Mater the GMAT Cat test and scored 540. Last week i took MGMAT CAT and scored 580. I feel that i rushed through the math section and guessed few questions. I would appreciate any suggestions and comments.

I was also contemplating between buying MGMAT set or Veritas set to prepare myself for my next GMAT exam.

i would try to push the exam out 3 months. that way, you can put in consistent work over that in order to master the basics and develop a good test-taking strategy. 1 month is probably too soon if you're looking to score that high. be patient. beating the GMAT can be a long, demanding journey.

The school that I'm applying to has a deadline that is approaching. Unfortunately, I do not have 3 months to prepare because of the deadline. I plan to quit my full-time job and focus solely on gmat. Part of the reason I did not do well is because I was not prepared well due to working full-time. Any suggestions how to tackle the GMAT in a month? Or successful strategies?

is there any chance you could push your graduate school plans a year?

i am not sure quitting your job it he wisest decision. "a bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush". most people who sit for the GMAT work full-time (myself included). the key to success for workers is to do a little bit at a time over a longer time period (2+ months).

unfortunately, there is no magical shortcut. i am not sure what score you're looking to get, but your score indicates you have a lot of work to do. the test is more than memorizing material. you have to master the material (the basics), fully understand the structure of the test, develop good timing strategies, and learn how the GMAT likes to test the material.

in the end, studying for the GMAT is more about quality than it is about quantity. you need to make sure that you have good study materials and that you are putting in consistent work. you will find many successful strategies on this site (go to the "i just beat the gmat" forum).

Hello rovshan85,

I an going to be honest with you :
1) Plan out 3 months for GMAT - And dedicate yourself to the timeline you planned for practice.
2) Don't quit your job. For many a times, holding no job doesn't fare well on your MBA application.

Maybe take a day off in a week from work, if that is possible at your work place.
Stick to your job and study plans and you should do fine.
