I recently wrote the gmat and scored significantly lower than all of my previous practice tests, and im not sure what to attribute it to in order for me to study, retake the test, and do better.
I took a Kaplan course for a couple months, and used the resources they provided. By the middle of the course my score was already increasing, but then for some reason the latter end of my CAT scores were getting worse. I did some focused studying in Algebra/Arithmetic's and sentence correction...but still, nothing. Following the Kaplan course I studied for 2 months on my own.
I'm not necessarily excelling in any particular section, just average in everything. Math is a little more difficult for me than Verbal because I haven't been studying math for quite some time.
I feel pretty defeated and am not really sure how to continue studying because, i feel like what I was doing wasn't beneficial.

You have mentioned that the way you were studying was not beneficial ,but you didn't mention the "way" you were actually studying. Remember the GMAT is not an exam where devoting X number of months will give you Y results. What is of utmost importance here is that you study the right way and I can tell you from my personal experience as I am a GMAT veteran

What score are you aiming for ? What score were you getting in the practice CATs? Which resources did you use to prepare for each of the different areas ? What was your study schedule like ? How did you actually study in the hours you had set aside for the GMAT ? I think you should really think or better write the answers to these questions and then you can possibly be on your way to approaching the GMAT in the right way.

Hey..

You have said that you prepared Algebra and SC but found no results. Are these your weak areas?

I think you need to answer the questions asked in the reply above.

Also, you need to study focused on each and every area. You need to identify all question types and use the best books such as MGMAT SC and Powerscore CR Bible.

And after every attempt, you still don't seem to be improving, then probably you have already touched the peak. Accept the results and move on. But I am sure that with focused effort, you will be able to improve your scores.
