OG 10 or OG 11

by adilayub » Sun Jun 22, 2008 9:45 am
Hi,

I recently joined this forum and found it really helping. I am a little confused these days about using the OG guides. Should I use OG 10 or OG 11 (all 3 of them). I have read many forums and seen my websites answering these question but no one never tells which one to choose, all they say that 10 has these benefits and 11 have these.

Can you people out there with your experience tell me which one should I choose ? Also it would be great if some one could tell me where can I find difficulty levels of question in OG10.

I look forward to your responses.

In general, it's always best to practice with the latest GMAT materials. I would go with OG11 if you haven't purchased any OG books yet.

OG 10 is too old to be useful, really. Don't bother with it. The three current OG guides are much better. OG 10 is too easy and won't adequately prepare you for the test.

I think I've answered this at least 10/20 times so I will quote it this time ;)

"These new two official guides, (also known as purple and green guides,) are published when GMAC stopped the production of OG 10th edition. While new problems are in OG 11; purple and green guides give you lot of repeats from OG 10th edition. Therefore it is wise not to buy these two books iff you already have OG 10."

There is 75% overlap between OG10 and the three current books (OG11, verbal supplement, quant supplement). If you've already got OG10, you might as well just use it.

For others who don't and are wondering what to buy, even though you have to buy three books for the latest edition (that is, it's more expensive), I still recommend using the latest stuff. Although the vast majority is identical in both books, the 25% of questions stripped out of OG10 were the "poorest performing" questions. They're constantly tweaking the test to make it better, so they stripped out the lowest-performing questions and replaced them with newly released questions that they felt were more representative of the current GMAT.

Not an enormous difference, which is why I say you might as well use OG10 if you've already got it. But if you don't, you might as well use the newest stuff.
