So I've spent the better part of the past 4 months preparing for the GMAT, and today I actually took the exam. I walked out defeated and devastated with a 620 (48Q, and 28V).
Over the past few weeks, I've taken quite a few practices and below are my scores:
MGMAT 1-4: 620-640 (Months 1-3)
GMAT Prep 1 - 620
GMAT Prep 1 (Retake) - 640
GMAT Prep 1 (Retake 2) - 690
GMAT Prep 1 (Retake 3) - 720 (Q-49, V, 38) ... a few repeats
GMAT Prep 2 - 650 (Q - 49, V 29)
GMAT Prep 2 (Retake 1) - 690 (Q 50, V 33)
My verbal has been on the lower end throughout my practice exams. but the 720 was a bit of a confidence boost, until I got the 650 and came right back to reality. The past three GMAT's I took, my Quant ranged from 47-50. I feel confident and comfortable that I can do well in the Quant, but I'm completely at a loss on the verbal. I don't know where I'm going wrong or what I can do next. I'm hoping to apply for business school for R2 this year, and I am planning on taking the GMAT again in one month.
At this point, I'm considering getting a private tutor specifically for verbal because I must be making some serious mistakes somewhere. I feel like I shouldn't walk into the next GMAT exam unless I can pull of a V40 in the GMAT Prep practice. That way, even if I'm not quite there on the real exam, I might get high 30's. I went through the MGMAT SC Guide, I've signed up for both E-GMAT and the BTG practice questions, and I've done a ton of other problems. I think it's possible I have not spent enough time reviewing my errors on Verbal, but I still don't think that should have contributed to a 28 on the real exam.
Anyone who has been in a similar situation, and found a way to dramatically increase your verbal, I'd greatly appreciate the advice. I have one more month to pull it off, and I'm desperate. After studying for 4+ continuous months, I'm not willing to give up, I know the 700+ is achievable.
If anyone knows of good tutors in the DC Metro areas, please send me a PM.
Thanks
