I wanted to post my study technique, since the technique I read about on this board was helpful for me. I took the GMAT twice. Last month I got a 690 (Q43,V42) and this month I got a 710 (Q44,V44). I'm pretty sure I'm done with it, although I may take it once more to see if I can't get lucky on Quant.
The first time around I took the Veritas Prep Course, which was helpful for Math - at least in the sense that I felt as though I was aware of 99% of what would be thrown at me.
Also, I used GMAT Hack Math and Verbal Bible which was great - probably all you need, besides OG, and its not that pricey.
The second time around I didn't study at all and just took the exam, maybe not the best strategy in retrospect. The first time I took a practice Exam (in March) I was scoring around a 600. So I think you can def pull up your score by studying.
That being said, only so much. I'm not a quant guy, so I feel that in order for me to hit a 50, I would need to study another 5 weeks intensely, which brings me to my point that b-schools are not looking for 800's so don't worry about that. My score reflects that a lot of really smart engineers did better then me in quant, which I can live with, since I'm not an engineer and don't want to go into finance.
Anyways, since I did better on Verb than Quant I will share my Verb advice:
Read everything very carefully!
Only do OG for Verbal, nothing else is helpful/needed
I practiced SC heavily, including basic grammar review, but on test day I went with my gut, because it saved me time and really debating between two unknowns is a waste of time.
For RC and CR do not write stuff down, it only takes away time, instead do it all in your head, if something is important then remember it for the next 5 minutes.
For CR all I do is write down ABCDE, and W for weaken or S for Strengthen, etc, then remember the question your trying to solve.
Finally, remain calm and focused in the exam, and really do your best to pace yourself without the clock.
